Clear your clutter

When you’re moving house you might find there’s a lot of you have to sort through. This could make the process of packing more complicated. To help you, we’ve come up with some handy tips for clearing clutter.

Tips For Clearing Clutter

1. Plan in advance

When you give yourself time to plan, you can work out which rooms you’re going to tackle first in order to make the process more efficient. You’ll be able to evaluate how many boxes and containers you have available and how many more you’ll need.

2. Have packing materials ready

Make sure you have enough boxes stocked up so that you can pack while you declutter your house. It won’t be much use if you go to pack and you have nowhere to put your items. Find a shop that sells cardboard boxes and packing material at a reasonable rate, so you can start the process as soon as possible.

3. Start early

When you leave packing to the last minute, it can feel overwhelming, especially when you have a lot of items that need sorting through. To minimise your stress, start clearing and packing as soon as you can. Clearing up won’t feel so difficult when you’re not working against the clock.

4. Organise waste disposal

It’s important to determine where your waste is going, particularly if you’re undertaking a big clear up. You could recycle your goods, donate old toys and clothes to charity, or you could hire one of our skips. None of the waste you dispose of with us will end up in landfill and 97% of will be recycled. We even drop off and pick up the skip from your house, so all you have to do is fill it! Your waste doesn’t have to go straight in the bin when there are environmentally friendly alternatives available.

5. Least used rooms first

You might have a room in your house that doesn’t get used very often, such as a storage cupboard or a loft that’s full of miscellaneous items. These are good places to start decluttering and packing away because you don’t have to worry about whether you might need those items in the near future. In fact, some of the objects in these rooms might already be in boxes, which is an added benefit. In such cases, the most you might have to do is rearrange the boxes so that they are easy to access on your moving day.

6. Be realistic

When sifting through your clutter, you’ll need to be realistic about what stays and what goes. If you’re too ruthless, you might end up throwing away useful items, but if you’re too soft, there’s no way of downsizing that clutter! This is why starting early is beneficial; the extra time will help you to make more concise and thought out decisions.
